That is why being vigilant with safety is so important in the daily activities of a construction project. Expert witness on construction site incident. Review the incident, the safety practices of each company involved. OSHA law and regulations. Also review opposing experts, depositions and mediation. The incident is scheduled for court this fall.

    4th posting of opportunities to help the 1888 house safe and back to the beautiful home it should be.The original soffit was build as a 14” stud wall. The framing was horizontal rough cut 2”x 6”s spaced 24” o.c. Wrapped with 1”x 8”s.The bearing spacing was as far as 11 feet. The front of the house , 1”x 8 “ face, had a 80%, failure crack running from the 2 column past the 3rd column. The crack ran 12 feet long, from the bottom of the soffit to about 6” up the 1”x 8” soffit. With little structural design built into the support of the porch roof and soffit something had to fix this issue.Resolution: Connecting the old soffit to the new structural 14” LVL.We added one 14” LVL (painted on all sides) to the inside of the soffits. The LVL fit perfectly, 14” high.We used: structural glue to glue to the inside wood pieces and screwed, structural screws into the studs and supported. The LVL we set on top of the new structural columns.Eliminating a future roof failure.

    Third set of opportunities do make the 1888 house safe and back to the beautiful home it should be.Third set of issues/ opportunities:A. During the process of replacing floor structure, we found that the downspouts had bore a 12”x 12” x 14” deep hole into the foundation wall. The foundation is 14” cut Platteville limestone.B. The rain and snow melt would ran to a gutters and downspoutsystem. This water would run into the main sewer/water drainage system under the pouch. In the 1990s, the city required that the downspouts be disconnected from the sewer water draining system.C. We repaired the hole with limestone and repaired several cracks.Second set of issue/opportunities:A. One brick wide, the east wall was tipping in toward the house and was not structuraly sound.B. The outside of the brick had tuck pointed, but the interior mortar joints desintergrated.Soilution:Took the load off the brick and added 12” concrete pilasters onto the existing footings and ran the concrete to the deck support.First set of issues/opportunities:The 1888 replacement of five feet of the front entrance tongue and groove deck.We found:1. The front entrance floor joist were rought cut lumber 2x4,2x6 and 2x8. Some had sisters boards running only past the rotted joists.2. The front entrance columns were being supported by one 16”-2x4,one each side. Also they were not nailed in to the joists above and only sat on the concrete footing.4.     A house that was built in 1888.Five feet of the front entrance tongue and groove deck was being replaced. We found:1. The front entrance floor joist were rought cut 2x4,2x6 and 2x8. Some had sisters boards running only past the rotted joists.2. The front entrance columns were being supported by one 16” 2x4 one each side and they were not nailed in.4. Joist and column bases had dry rot.New issue:A. One brick wide, the east wall was tipping in toward the house and was not structuraly sound.B. Took the load off the brick and added 12” concrete pilasters onto the existing footings and ran the concrete to the deck support.2. Using extruded polystyrene is rated bearing of 60psi. Also gets in all the nooks and cranniess of the joints.More issues to resolve to come.

    EDS Forensics report. Settle out out of court👍A person tripped and broke there leg. On a concrete edge at a HOA neighborhood, in a suburb in the Twin Cities, Mn. The person didn’t have the visual distance to see a elevation change and open joint.

Based on this experience, I have learned that needless repairs can be avoided, and energy savings can be achieved, through the use of novel methods of window installation that I have developed.
